About our Culinary Experiences

About our Culinary Experiences

  • We have designed a package to take great care of you during your trip. You will have some free time for optional activities, and we will provide customized recommendations of places to see/things to do/places to eat and drink for those free whiles. We want you to feel relaxed and taken care of!

  • Of course! We will not only provide a custom-designed map with recommendations of all our favorite places; with such an exclusive group, we also get to know our guests well enough to provide personalized recommendations.

  • During the trip, almost everything is covered, as detailed above. You will need to bring extra for what’s not included: personal shopping expenses, 1 lunch and 1 dinner on your own (as well as all breakfasts if you choose the activities-only option), and discretionary gratuities. You will be able to pay with credit card in most places; however, for small amounts, credit cards are sometimes not accepted, so you should have some euros at the ready.

  • Not at the moment. Our services start and end in the destination city, for now. If you need help, let us know and we will do our best to refer you.

  • Sobremesa is the time we send at the table after we’ve eaten. It’s time spent socializing, savoring, digesting, sharing. Quality time, the Mediterranean way.

Barcelona FAQ

Barcelona FAQ

  • Our days together will surely give you a good taste of the city -pun intended. Nevertheless, Barcelona is a big, rich city with lots to see and do! We offer the service of booking you an additional hotel night before or after the trip (at an extra cost).

  • Our three staff members are English speaking. In Barcelona, because it’s such a visited city, it’s not hard to get by. However, speaking a couple of words will surely make locals like you better! Remember, Barcelona is a part of Catalunya, which has its own language. People in Barcelona are bilingual and speak both Spanish and Catalan (though they often prefer to speak the latter).

  • Barcelona is a very safe city. Nevertheless, as an extremely touristy city, there is a lot of pickpocketing, targeted mostly at tourists. Please keep track of your belongings at all times.

San Sebastian FAQ

San Sebastian FAQ

  • Sobremesa staff members are all English-speaking. The Basque country has its own language, Euskera, which is not a romance language and very difficult to learn. However, because the region is a tourist attraction, it’s not hard to get by without speaking Euskera. Also because it’s a language only spoken by such a small population, everyone there is bilingual and speaks Spanish as well. We will teach you a few words of Spanish to help get by, if you like, but also you can rest assured that we will guide you through.

  • Yes! Some of our staff members have their own dietary restrictions (and in some cases that’s what led them to become trained chefs) so we definitely feel for you, and we are well-trained in finding the best substitutions to accommodate each person’s limitations. At our classes, we make a variety of dishes so there are always options to choose from, and even if that means not getting to try every single dish, we promise you won’t go hungry! Please let us know your restrictions well in advance (relax, we will ask you) so we can plan accordingly.

  • Not at all. Our cooking classes are designed for people of all levels of experience, from those who have never boiled an egg to experience home cooks or even trained chefs. Although you will learn new techniques and cooking styles, the focus is on the culture, with high quality ingredients prepared the Mediterranean way, which is often pretty straightforward. Always, the main point is to spend time savoring and enjoying life and food. Sobremesa style.

  • Spain is a great wine producer. At Sobremesa we ascribe to the Mediterranean culture, in which wine is consumed daily, in moderate amounts (sipped slowly, just as slowly as we eat there). As such, we will include one glass of local Spanish wine per person with lunch and one with dinner. If you want to drink more, you are welcome to buy some of your own wine, and we are happy to give recommendations.

  • Cava is a sparkling wine of Denomination of Origin (D.O.), produced in Catalonia. Cava is commonly known as "Spanish champagne", though that name is not permitted under EU law. Champagne is produced in France; cava in Catalonia.

  • Txakoli is a young, lightly sparkling wine with high acidity and low alcohol content produced in the Basque region. It is typically served in large, tall glasses and enjoyed as an aperitif with some pintxos, the Basque version of tapas.
